1989/F Moto Guzzi Mille GT 1000 cc Special

This is a Cafe Racer Special, based on a standard 1989 Moto Guzzi Mille GT. This uses the legenday Tonti duplex frame with the equally legendary Moto Guzzi big block air-cooled 1000 cc V-Twin motor mated to a 5-speed gearbox and shaft drive. The previous owner was a CNC machinist who made several nice alloy custom parts for the machine, including the instrument binnacle, battery tray and various brackets. It has its original clocks showing only 18,500 miles which is back up by and verified with the extensive history and old MOT’s.

Recent work conducted includes :

The shaft drive inspection found it to be sound. It was re-assembled with a new rubber boot at the gearbox (UJ) end. The carburettors (standard Dell'Orto 30 mm) were in need of cleaning, so were stripped, cleaned ultrasonically and rebuilt with new seals. The pumper diaphragms were also replaced. The points ignition system was retained, but electronic assist modules were fitted (can be reverted to standard quickly with a plug/switch). The wiring was in a poor state, so was completely replaced with a custom-made loom. The standard Magura levers with built-in switchgear were retained. There is a full set of lights and turn indicators and twin horns (loud!!), plus LED indicators for neutral, oil pressure, high beam and charging. An Ammeter has also been fitted. All systems work well and unlike many standard Guzzis from this period, full headlamp brightness is achieved! The  front forks are Paoli with air-assisted damping. They were found to be good but new air-assist inserts were fitted. Raask Jota-type adjustable clip-ons were fitted .Front and rear brakes are standard Brembo disc brakes. The front brake Master Cylinder has new seals. The front discs have been drilled in a Le Mans pattern. The Moto Guzzi linked braking system has been retained. Wheels are the standard Akront (unflanged) alloys, available as an option on these machines when new. TT100 tyres are fitted and are in good condition.Original Moto Guzzi exhaust downpipes were retained, but silencers changed for Lanfranconis giving a lovely deep tone. The rearsets were replaced with the correct Tarozzi type. The alloy fuel tank and side panels are hand-built items produced by Tab 2 Classics. The seat unit is Ducati but fits this machine perfectly and has useful storage space in the seat hump. Front and rear mudguards replaced with period alloy units.

Runes & Rides beautifully. A true special build of a very high quality and a very rare example indeed. Much more individual than a Le Mans £8995

Honda 550/4 RC181 Hailwood Tribute

This machine is a tribute to Mike Hailwood's TT winning RC181 500/4 from 1967.

It is based on a low mileage 1978 Honda CB550K2 imported from the USA in 2017. After conversion, the machine was correctly registered in 2018 with DVLA as a road machine with correct V5. It passed its first UK MOT in 2018 with no advisories and has been used sparingly since, having completed only a few hundred miles (as the tyres show). It only has a rear/brake light and as such has "Daylight MOT" status. It now has Historic Vehicle status and no longer requires an MOT or Tax.

The engine and 5-speed transmission unit was completely stripped, inspected against specification and re-built. All proved to be in very good condition, but the primary chain, cam chain, cam chain tensioner and clutch plates were all replaced as a precaution. The cylinder bores were in good condition and within standard spec, so they were given a light honing and new piston rings were fitted. The head was de-coked and all valves lapped in. All gaskets and seals were replaced and a new oil filter fitted. The engine was not tuned because the intention was to produce a road-legal and usable general tribute to the RC181, not a race replica.

A four into four megaphone silencer system is fitted, each silencer contains a removable baffle. This gives a fairly sporty sound for road use. For off-road use, the baffles can be removed quickly for a more interesting and distinctly loud sound.

The four carburettors were stripped and cleaned ultrasonically, then rebuilt with new jets and seals/gaskets. Alloy bellmouths are fitted to give it the authentic race appearance. Both the electric and kick starters were retained, as was the alternator. The latter charges a battery hidden under the seat hump.

Both wheels were rebuilt using flanged alloy rims. The rear wheel used the original Honda hub with SLS brake and an Akront rim. A Suzuki T500 TLS hub was used for the front wheel, together with a Morad rim. New tyres were fitted to both wheels.

The fuel tank is a modern fibreglass unit designed for an Aermacchi but with the right general shape for the Honda. The fairing is a good replica of the original RC181 fairing and is fitted to custom made brackets using quarter-turn Dzus fasteners.

The original gear and brake levers have been modified and adapted to be operated by the rearsets. Main electrics are all housed in a box hidden beneath the seat. The box includes the ignition switch/starter, starter solenoid, electronic ignition units and rectifier/regulator. The ignition uses standard points and coils, but assisted with an electronic module. All wiring is new with a purpose made loom, and drives a horn, plus a small indicator panel with Oil Pressure, Charging and Neutral LEDs.

This is a rare and very well executed faithful roadworthy tribute to the bike as ridden by Hailwood and offers a unique opportunity. Viewing is by appointment only. Viewing by appointment only.  £6995

1957 Triton

This is an old school Triton café racer built around 1996 and matured over the years with many improvements. It comprises of a 1957 Norton Dominator wideline frame coupled to Norton “ Road holder” forks.  Triumph Pre-unit engine built from a 6T Thunderbird engine c1957. Most internals are Bonneville complete with a twin Amal carburettor  head, which was completely renovated with new valves and seats, with phosphor bronze valve guides. All this married to a very rare Triumph “ slick shift” gearbox which were only produced for around a year or so. This enables clutchless gear changes. All electrics rewired and alternator upgraded to 12 volt. Runs, rides and sounds beautiful. There is a thick history file dating back to the time of the build with numerous invoices and full Mot history until the time it became registered as a  Historic vehicle. This is a ready to use well sorted Triton which really is a thing of beauty. You will not be disappointed.   £10950
